Welcome to your class!

Welcome to Scratch Class 2018!

We are excited to create Scratch projects with you. Please see the Scratch Programming Handbook for sample projects and ways to help your Scratcher at home! Each day I will post highlights of our class on this blog, so visit it often! Also, please make sure you have your parent email permission slip handed in to me before Tuesday's class. Thanks so much.

Don't forget Scratch Sharing Day on July 12th at 10:30 am in the Hidden Oaks Media Center. Come learn what your child has been up to all week. See you then.

Days 1 & 2: We had a fun first day today! First of all, groups of students designed a maze, or obstacle course, with straws and connectors for a robot to navigate..  Finally, the students created their own Scratch account, discovered what Scratch can do, and began exploring how to use the application.

• The students manipulated Sprites and Blocks to form Scripts
• The students started either a name project or another project with a distinct purpose and saved it.

Each student has completed the necessary steps to receive a total of 4 badges after the end of today's lessons! Way to go, Scratchers!! The students also learned how to think of a story as a series of steps that occur in order, like a computer program, and that randomness allows unpredictable things to happen in programs!

A highlight of tomorrow's class is that we will be  participating in a "walk through" to see what other "scratchers" created on day One. Tomorrow will be exciting because Scratchers will learn how to see what other people have created and incorporate the scripts into their projects if they choose to do so. See you tomorrow!

Link to the Scratch website is found here.

Days 3 & 4:  Characterization, premise, conditionals and variables were introduced to the "Scratchers" the last half of class. The coders are doing well designing their projects to showcase to all of you on Thursday! We can not wait to share with you all of our hard work this week in coding class!

I highly encourage your scratcher to continue their hard work at home. They may log into their Scratch user accounts at home with the user name and password used in class. All of their projects are saved under their user name "My Stuff." I will keep the website I used in class active for students to refer back to. Here is that link: Mrs. T.'s Website.

It has been a pleasure getting to know your children and I wish them the best of luck as they continue their coding journey!
